King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED) is about an hour from Makkah. Here are the options we could confirm from official sources.
1. Haramain train (fastest, fixed timetable)
- The airport station is built into the main terminal, with links to buses, taxis and car parks.
- 54 minutes to Makkah with one stop at Jeddah Sulaimaniyah. All 16 services on the sample date: 54 min with 1 stop (Sulaimaniyah). First 08:35, last 23:35.
- Makkah station is in Ar Rusayfah, about 3.5 km from Masjid al-Haram (per the operator), so plan a short taxi, app ride or bus to your hotel.

2. Licensed ride-hailing apps (door to door)
Uber and Careem both appear on the Transport General Authority's official list of licensed e-hailing applications. Advise users to use licensed apps or official taxis only. Fares are dynamic and shown in the app.
3. Inside Makkah
- Makkah Bus (public bus network): 12 routes (7 local, 5 express), 438 bus stops and 4 central stations across Makkah. The Royal Commission for Makkah's visitor site gives the fare as 4 SAR per ticket (site last updated around October 2025); check the Makkah Bus app for the current price.
- Makkah Taxi: Makkah Taxi is a taxi service for pilgrims, residents and visitors in Makkah, with app booking, electronic payment and a link to the transport control room (per the RCMC visitor site).
