Distances are walking routes on mapped footpaths where we calculated them, otherwise straight lines (marked). The listing’s own claim is quoted as published. The share link contains only the hotels you picked, no personal details.
How the comparison works
- Distance: a straight line from the hotel's position on OpenStreetMap to the nearest of the five main gates of Masjid al-Haram, or to the building of Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah. We measure every hotel the same way, so the numbers can be compared.
- Walking route: where we have calculated it, the walking distance and time along OpenStreetMap streets and footpaths, cross-checked with a second routing engine. Where no route is shown, only the straight line is known.
- On the way: steps and main-road crossings recorded on the mapped route, and pedestrian tunnels or bridges.
- Access: a step-free entrance or wheelchair access is marked as confirmed only when the hotel's own listing says so.
- Prices: they change every day with dates and occupancy, so the button opens the current price on the booking site instead of showing a fixed number.
How to choose a hotel near the Haram
Start with the walk, not the advertised distance. Two hotels sold as “200 m from the Haram” can be minutes apart on foot, because one is measured to the corner of a plaza and the other to a gate. Compare the walking time and the gate where the walk ends.
Then look at what is on the way. Steps, main-road crossings and long tunnels matter most for elderly pilgrims, families with children and anyone pushing a wheelchair. The comparison shows what is mapped on the route, and anything the hotel has not confirmed is marked as not verified rather than assumed.
Finally, compare prices for your own dates. They change with the season and occupancy, so the price button opens the booking site for the dates you enter. Our guides to the Masjid al-Haram gates and to Umrah for elderly pilgrims help with the last choices.
Frequently asked questions
Why are our distances longer than the hotel's?
Many hotels measure to the nearest corner of the mosque or its courtyard. We measure to a main gate you can enter in Makkah, and to the mosque building in Madinah.
How many hotels can I compare?
Up to three at a time, from the hotels we have checked against their official or booking listings. Add a hotel from its page with “Add to compare”.
Which gate are the Makkah distances measured to?
To the nearest of the five main gates of Masjid al-Haram, shown with its official number, for example Gate 1 (King Abdulaziz) or Gate 79 (King Fahd).
Can I share a comparison with my family?
Yes. Copy the comparison link and send it: it opens the same hotels side by side, with nothing to sign up for.
